I listen to Ravi Shankar on a regular basis. It calms me down, for some reason, when you'd think maybe it would do the opposite. At times. As a violinist, I'm always in awe at the sitar.

I think my first exposure to it was George Harrison in the Beetles... Love it!

Mine too! I really only knew about The Beatles using it and that Ravi Shankar taught George.

Yeah I love that sound that comes from a sitar especially if used in situations musically that’s not even remotely Indian in inspiration and that perks my attention. Don’t get me started on that because I also love those frame drums and other instruments not typical of any mainstream music 🎶 haha 😆

Just one addition if I may. There prior, other pioneers of the Sitar, based in north Indian during 18th-19th century, and not just one Ravi Shanker of the 20th century, which the West considers a star of the instrument and music.
