This month’s piece is titled “Currents”.
This month we plunge into the depths of the ocean to explore its mysteries and listen to some ambient music. Cause that’s what everyone listens to at the bottom of the ocean, right? “Currents” is inspired by Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea1. In this story we join the main characters as they meet Captain Nemo, board his submarine the Nautilus, and travel around the world under the oceans exploring their wonders.
In “Currents”, there are synths, piano, a sequencer, and some heavily processed sounds. One of these processed sounds is an organ sample that eventually became the drone that plays throughout the piece. The second is a tea kettle. I took a recording of the kettle as it was steaming, pitched it down two octaves, and mangled it with some plug-ins. I didn’t devote much time to playing around with modular synths this month, so there aren’t any in this piece.
A Minor Fossil Anniversary
